“Until the time that His word came to pass the word of the Lord tested him.” — Psalm 105:19 (NKJV)
Did you ever wait and wait for an answer to prayer as you claimed a promise out of Scripture? I certainly have which is why I was glad to have this Scripture pointed out to me.
God had given Joseph dreams of promotion when he was a lad. It certainly did not seem like promotion was in his life when his brothers sold him and he ended up with his feet in chains. The word of the Lord did indeed test him.
This verse sheds some light on the dilemma many of us face as we wait for the fulfillment of a promise from Scripture. We have the word, we quote the word back to Him. We know “the word will not return void but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11, but the promise is still not fulfilled in the natural realm hence the term “the word of the Lord is tested.” This can encourage us as we attempt to stand in faith and wait. It further encourages me when I read the story of Joseph and his promotion in God’s time.
