“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us.” — Psalm 90:17 NKJVa

As we are in the season where we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior it came to me to address serving hands. A believer’s hands are one of the primary sources God uses through which blessings can flow out to others. I am sure many of you serve others in various ways over the holiday as we look for personal ways to serve those less fortunate than ourselves. There are multiple ways offered in our community and in our churches to reach out to the less fortunate. We tend to think of finances but there are needs of the spirit as well.

James 4:8b NIV refers to washing our hands and purifying our hearts. It is interesting to see that a clean heart equals clean hands. We are well aware of the significance of keeping our hands physically clean so as not to transmit germs and contamination.

We see a parallel in the spiritual realm as our hand’s represent and often act out what is in our heart. As our hearts and hands are kept clean God will use us to bless others.

It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season and let our good deeds be done without much thought – just automatic pilot. Let us slow down and give thought and direct attention to serving others whom we come across who are needy for a kind word, attention, or need help in various ways.
