We are right at the holiday called Thanksgiving. I want to focus on the most basic reason to be thankful. Ephesians 1:3-13 gives us reassuring words about how God views those of us who have chosen Him. We are so blessed that He chose us before the foundation of the world. I personally think He chose each of His man/woman creations but sadly some do not respond to His outstretched arms.
Verse 5 says He adopted us. Some of us came from dysfunctional families or perhaps we ourselves were adopted into a family. Now to read that the God of the universe chose us for His family is an awesome thought. You take what you get in a natural birth but in adoption there is a choice.
We are accepted in the beloved. How wonderful it is to feel accepted in spite of our faults. It makes us want to serve the one who so completely accepts us with all our imperfections.
The passage goes on to assure us we have redemption available to us through His blood, He makes known the mysteries of His will, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, and He guarantees our inheritance.
This is the greatest reason to be thankful this holiday.
