Two of my friends are going through a hard time with the illnesses of family members. Many people are praying for them. One person described the peace and comfort she feels during this time. She compared it to sitting on a chair that you know is very hard but when a cushion is placed over the hardness you don’t feel it as much. The hardness is still underneath but you are protected to some extent from the hardness. Prayer provides a cushion for us in our trials. We would be more uncomfortable were it not for the cushion of prayer and the comfort the Holy Spirit provides. It is possible to feel supported and lifted up to some extent above the hardness of the situation.
Let us be faithful. Pray for those in need as well as ourselves, so we experience that cushion underneath the hard situations we are facing.
